Donaire responds to Pacquiao calling him "lazy"
November 29, 2016
Last month on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao vs Jessie Vargas, Nonito Donaire faced off against Jessie Magdaleno, who defeated him by decision in a close fight. It was probably the most entertaining fight of the Pac-Vargas card. Donaire quickly called out Magdaleno for an immediate rematch, which would probably be another good scrap.
A couple days afterwards, Manny Pacquiao chimed in on what he thought about the bout, specifically Donaire’s preparation. He thought he didn’t take the fight seriously, didn’t work hard enough in training camp, and even said that he was “lazy.”
That was a couple weeks ago, but Donaire has come back with a response to Pac’s statments.
“People don’t understand that we have a game plan and you follow that game plan. People may look at it as lazy, but we worked really hard in that camp. I think people don’t really have the proper opinion to state if I’m lazy – if they’ve never been there [in my camp]. But again, everybody still has the right to state what they believe and what they see – and that’s fair,” Donaire told BoxingScene.com.
He went on to say, “But if you’re going to state something [about me being lazy] without being able to see [the training] yourself, I don’t think anyone has the right to comment if they haven’t seen me and how hard I worked. I didn’t get tired in the fight, I just didn’t throw [more combinations] and that’s something that I will correct. He does have his own opinions, people all have their own opinions, but from my personal opinion – people have no right to comment when they are not there [in my camp]. If they saw it, they would really know how hard I worked.”
Pacquiao came pretty hard at Donaire, and I kind of feel for him. He has a point that maybe you can’t say that his preparation was lazy when you weren’t there. What do you think? Should Pacquiao have come at Donaire so hard? Was Donaire lazy?
