Kovalev calls Ward "Son of Judges"

December 5, 2016

Sergey Kovalev has complained multiple times that he feels he earned the decision against Andre Ward in their November 19th fight.  He is continuing to do so on social media.

After the fight ended, the former champ seemed pretty flabbergasted that Ward won, and stated that he wanted a rematch.  Kovalev thought that part of the reason that he lost was because he was fighting an American in Vegas.

Kovalev has been complaining about the decision on social media ever since he lost.  The other week, he posted HBO’s unofficial Lederman scorecard on Facebook which had him winning:

Yesterday, he posted a video of Ward’s reaction to the decision, where Kovalev thinks the newly crowned champion looked surprised that he won:

I understand that Kovalev’s frustration, and I agree with him in thinking won the fight.  When I watched it live, I was shocked that Ward got the decision.  I watched it again the day after, and gave Ward the benefit of the doubt in some of the swing rounds but still scored it 114-113 in Kovalev’s favor, with the knockdown being the difference.  I don’t know how all three judges gave so many rounds to Ward.

However, I think that at this point Kovalev just needs to move on.  There’s no point in dwelling on it anymore.  Come back stronger in the rematch and knock him out!
