Kovalev prepared to go the distance with Ward, but wants KO
November 7, 2016
Sergey Kovalev is deep in preparation for the biggest fight of his life.
This is of course his November 12th battle with fellow undefeated boxer Andre Ward. The winner of this fight could very well be considered the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.
Kovalev spoke to BoxingScene concerning the fight, and had some interesting stuff to say about his preparation. Kovalev is generally considered to be a big puncher, while Ward is a strategist. Kovalev is well aware that it’s going to be tough to KO Ward like he has most of his opposition.
“I am trying very hard to improve my boxing skills even more [than in previous fights] for this fight with Andre Ward. I believe I can knock anyone out, but I also believe I am a good boxer.”
“If I knock him out it would be great because boxing fans would be very happy, and me too, but I am training for 12 round fight with Andre Ward, because anything can happen in boxing. If I cannot knock him out I must be prepared to go 12 rounds with him.”
“He is very good defensive fighter, and difficult to hit. My last fight was against Chilemba, he was also very good boxer. H was difficult to hit sometimes but I was prepared to go distance and used my boxing skills to win fight. This fight with Andre Ward is definitely biggest, most important fight of my career and I will be prepared for him 100%.”
Make sure to check out Kovalev vs Ward Saturday November 19th at the T-Mobile Arena in Vegas. It will be on HBO Pay-Per-View at 9pm ET. This should be a great fight, and is certainly the most important one of the year.
