Nonito Donaire could face young powerhouse Oscar Valdez
December 28, 2016
According to Bob Arum of Top Rank, there could be a fight between Filpino veteran Nonito Donaire and promising young titleholder Oscar Valdez in early 2017.
“That’s a great fight for Donaire and it’s a fight that we look to make for the first three months of the year. It would be Donaire at 126 fighting against Oscar Valdez,” Arum told BoxingScene.com.
Donaire’s last fight came against Jessie Magdaleno, where he lost by a close decision. Donaire looked a bit sluggish in that fight and was unable to put together many combinations, and was even accused of being lazy by Manny Pacquiao.
Valdez is an extremely exciting fighter, who last fought on the same card as Donaire (November 5th on the undercard of Pac-Vargas). He put the hurting on Hiroshige Osawa in the first defense of his WBO featherweight title. The 26 year old Mexican would probably love a chance against Donaire, as a victory against the well-known “Filipino Flash” would raise his already growing profile.
Would you want to see this fight? Does Donaire have a chance against Valdez, or are his best days behind him?
