IT'S OFFICIAL: Golovkin vs Jacobs March 18th
December 17, 2016
After a long, drawn out negotiation that almost went to purse bid for a second time, Gennady Golovkin and Danny Jacobs finally came to an agreement on a fight. Golovkin will defend his WBC, IBO, WBA, and IBF middleweight titles on March 18th at Madison Square Garden on HBO Pay-Per-View.
The WBA had a purse bid scheduled for this coming Monday, so the fighters’ respective teams were scrambling to get something together.

It’s official me vs @GGGBoxing for my next fight!!!

This announcement will certainly come as a relief to boxing fans. GGG vs Jacobs should have been an easy fight to make, but due to Jacobs wanting a bigger slice of the pie than Golovkin’s team was willing to give him, the negotiations were delayed.
This fight will be the first of four fights that Golovkin plans to have next year, after having a slightly less busy year than he normally does in 2016. Golovkin planned to fight three times in 2016, but due to the delay in negotiations with Jacobs he was only able to fight Kell Brook and Dominic Wade, both of who he stopped within the first five rounds.
Jacobs won both of his last two fights by stoppage as well: Sergio Mora in the 7th round and Peter Quillin only halfway through the first round of their bout. The victory against Quillin was the biggest of his career.
This should be a great fight, and is likely Golovkin’s biggest challenge of his whole career. What do you think?
