WATCH: This Could Be 2015's Knockout Of The Year (Video)
December 4, 2015
On a Premier Boxing Champions card from Lowell, MA featuring welterweight boxers Gabriel Bracero and Danny O’Connor, Bracero brutally KO’d O’Connor 41-seconds into a fight scheduled for ten rounds. Bracero shocked O’Connor with a brutal right cross to the chin, sending O’Connor to the canvas, in what could very well be the knockout of the year. It may even be one of the best knockouts of the past decade. What makes it even more impressive, is that Bracero landed only two punches in the ENTIRE fight.
You can watch the brutal knockout below at the 47 second mark.
O’Connor was hoping to defeat Bracero who handed him his first professional in their initial matchup back in 2011. But it obviously didn’t happen in the rematch.
On the knockout, Bracero was ecstatic and had this to say post fight:
“As far as the feeling, it’s an amazing feeling…My message to Danny was after my last loss [to an undefeated Felix Diaz], I went into a depression and I told him to pick himself back up and go home and be proud of himself. I didn’t want the same thing happening to him that happened to me. I worked on that punch in the gym. Because he’s a southpaw, so I had to keep my left leg outside of his right leg. It was just stepping over to the left and swinging with all my might. God bless Danny. God has blessed me with a second chance in life.”
Bracero is an easy man to root for and a lovable underdog. Bracero hadn’t scored a stoppage win since 2012, and came into this fight off of a loss to Felix Diaz Jr in April. Furthermore, the Brooklyn based 34 year old Bracero is a man who has truly rebuilt his life after spending nearly six years behind bars and is a father of four. He likely will never win a championship, but he is a fun fighter to root for.
